California Train Accident 20 People Confirmed Injured
This week 20 people were injured in an Amtrak train and big rig truck accident in the Central Valley. There were an estimated 169 passengers on the Amtrak train at the time of the accident. Details of the accident are still vague at this point but it seems that the accident occurred when the driver of the big rig failed to yield to the train, and crashed into it causing 2 passenger cars of the train to go off the tracks.
At least 8 of the passengers who were injured were taken to a hospital, there is little information about the extent of the injuries, but is it is believed that these injuries are moderate.
The passengers were very lucky to survive at all. According to news media, metal pieces from the truck that broke away from impact, were found inside the train. The truck driver seems to have been injured in the accident, but his injuries are minor.
The California Highway Patrol has opened an investigation, the investigation will focus on whether the accident was caused by truck driver error, or whether there were any crossing-related defects that caused this crash.
