Person Dies in Amtrak Collision
As a California personal injury attorney, I know how serious collisions on the train tracks can be for pedestrians. Amtrak accidents are far less common than car crashes but still just as devastating and often result in severe to fatal injuries. According to the Daily News Online An Amtrak train has collided with a pickup truck about 19 miles south of Tacoma, Washington. A base spokeswoman says the crash killed the truck’s driver. The crash happened shortly before 7 p.m. Monday about 40 yards from a public rail crossing on BNSF right of way.
Base spokeswoman Brendalyn Carpenter confirmed the fatality.
Amtrak spokeswoman Vernae Graham says the train was southbound from Seattle, headed for Eugene, Ore., with 153 passengers. No one aboard the train was hurt.
Even though this Amtrak accident occurred in Washington, the tracks that run through California are also highly dangerous for pedestrian or motor vehicles crossing. Trains are fast moving and relatively quiet, making it difficult to assess crossing safety. Train crosswalks and signs should be utilized at all times in order to avoid unnecessary personal injuries.
If you or a loved one have been seriously injured in a dangerous train/ trucking accident then contact an experienced Riverside personal injury lawyer to further discuss your options.
