Minor Crash Turned Deadly
A minor crash between a U-Haul truck and a big rig on the 60 Freeway suddenly turned deadly when a third vehicle plowed into the trucks. Both vehicles had been parked on the shoulder of the freeway when the subsequent accident occurred. According to reports, the drivers who were involved in the first crash were exchanging insurance information and contact information when an 18-wheeler struck one of the parked trucks.
The fatal accident occurred near Diamond Bar Boulevard in Los Angeles County on October 19. No one was seriously injured after the first crash. However, the California Highway Patrol reported that one person was killed in the second truck accident and three other people were injured and hospitalized.
Officers reported that after the first crash, the big rig had parked behind the U-Haul truck and both drivers from the vehicles were standing in-between the trucks to discuss the crash. When another 18-wheeler crashed into the parked big rig, the vehicle was pushed forward and ran over the drivers. One driver died at the accident scene. The other driver who was run over had suffered critical injuries. A passenger in one of the trucks was hospitalized and so was the truck driver who had caused the second accident.
Officials have not yet said what caused the driver of the big rig to crash into the parked vehicles on the shoulder of the 60 Freeway. However, it is likely that the fatal accident could have been avoided.
Families often need to recover compensation after a serious or fatal accident like the one that happened in Diamond Bar last week. In order to do so, they will need to make sure that a multiple-vehicle crash is investigated thoroughly so that they can hold the correct party or parties liable for a loved one’s death or injuries. In these situations, family members and accident victims may want to consider consulting a personal injury attorney to learn more about protecting their rights after a crash.
