Texting While Walking
The Injury Prevention Journal has published a new study that shows that nearly one in three people cross busy streets while distracted by their cell phones — and some are even doing it during rush hour.
Texting is the most dangerous distracted walking activity, people who texted took nearly two seconds longer than non-texters to cross around three or four lanes of traffic. And they also ignored traffic lights, didn’t look both ways and crossed in an area that is not the crosswalk nearly four times more than non-texters.
Today, everyone seems to be in such a hurry to get somewhere. Freeways and roads in Southern California are jam-packed at almost any moment, on any day, at any location. Because of this, motor vehicle accidents are on the rise and more and more individuals are getting injured. Although this is a troubling trend, there are laws in place to protect the rights of those who are injured due to the actions of someone else. Texting while walking though is a potential injury brought on by yourself. Dont walk and text, dont drive text/call, be safe so that you don’t deal with the harsh consequences of it later. Trust that in the 30 years I have as a personal injury attorney I’ve seen many unnecessary injuries and peoples lives are damages for a very long time.
